National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) is the nation's clearinghouse and comprehensive reporting center for all issues related to the prevention of and recovery from child victimization - fighting against abduction, abuse, and exploitation. NCMEC provides training, resources, TA, education and resources to child-serving professionals, including law enforcement and other personnel who assist with missing and exploited children cases. NCMEC also provides victim and family support for families with a missing or sexually exploited child by providing crisis intervention, local counseling referrals, and other services. Team HOPE program connects families with peers who have had similar experiences and can offer coping skills, and understanding, and compassion. NCMEC analyzes case data and CyberTipline information to assess trends in the field and help inform NCMEC’s prevention education programming. NCMEC has dedicated staff and partners available to assist in cases involving missing and exploited children. NCMEC provides safety and prevention resources for families and professionals focusing on child abduction, child sexual exploitation, and internet safety including KidSmartz (Personal Safety Program), NetSmartz (Online Safety Program), Code Adam (helps businesses establish ensure they have safety protocols in place to respond quickly to situations of a missing child), Safe to Compete (Guidelines for youth-serving sporting organizations and parents of child athletes to help protect children from sexual abuse). Other issues such as sextortion are part of NCMEC's work to educate children and parents about this crime directed towards children in which non-physical forms of coercion are used, such as blackmail, to acquire sexual content from the child, engage in sex with the child, or obtain money from the child. DIsaster preparedness and response are also part of the issues NCMEC addresses as children can become separated from their loved ones during and following a disaster and are at increased risk of trauma. Resources are available to support dIsaster planning in a COVID-19 environment. Case resources and publications are also part of the NCMEC library.
