The Implementing a School Tip Line? New Research Provides a Blueprint (National Institute of Justice) provides information for educators, law enforcement professionals, community leaders, and school safety experts who are exploring various approaches to promote school safety and student well-being. This guide is designed to help stakeholders navigate key decisions and consider the factors necessary to support successful and efficient tip line implementation as part of an overall school safety strategy. The information provided describes the factors that decision-makers should consider when determining whether and how to implement a tip line as part of a comprehensive, proactive school violence prevention and response plan. This toolkit outlines several strategies for establishing a school tipline as well as highlights relevant stakeholders to engage for successful implementation. Examples of state partners and interest groups are provided based on a case example in the State of Michigan. Tip line mechanics are reviewed including marketing and outreach, information reception and protection, information access and triage, and training essential for all staff to respond to tip line calls.
